Located along the Mediterranean coast on the natural topography of Mersin, Z House is a modest residential structure that establishes its mass-space relationship through the lens of terrain, climate, and user scenarios.
The project is shaped by principles of structural simplicity and functional clarity. The building volume rises on a series of stone terraces that follow the natural slope of the land. These terraces preserve the continuity of the ground while defining the transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. The massing is derived from the orientation of living spaces, requirements for privacy, and the need for natural light. Openings and voids emerge not as applied design gestures, but as inherent extensions of spatial logic.
A landscape composed of olive trees, lavender, and low-maintenance Mediterranean plant species serves not only as a visual companion, but also as a permeable threshold between architecture and nature. These transitions—articulated through a calibrated relationship between hard and soft surfaces—enhance both orientation and spatial depth.
Z House is not shaped by formal preoccupations, but by contextual input and functional demands. It offers a calm yet expressive architectural response, seamlessly integrated with its natural surroundings.
