The core idea of the design approach was to transform an abandoned soviet kindergarten building and its surroundings into a contemporary international school in a very short time. Using different colors on the building façade not only helped to change the visual perception of the building and draw children’ attention to the school but also created an inspirational background for their games. With the materials available on the market, as it had been intended, using 50+ different colors would bring an extra cost to the construction budget which in turn would result in construction delays. To be able to complete the project on time and on budget without introducing any revisions, KEZER Architecture developed their own façade systems and materials. Standard aluminum ventilated façade systems were adapted to concrete-wood panels installation to cover the entire building. The panels were pre-painted with a sealing paint and installed with invisible bolts over the aluminum carcass. As a final layer 3 layers of very elastic paint were applied. The furnishings, custom designed for this project, were made to be easily moved within the space as needed.
